With the assistance of Tim Banks, graphic design professor at the Art Institute of Charleston, our club had the opportunity to work with the Art Institute’s students and pick from several designs presented by them.  This amazing  new poster created by John Gross, a graphic design student of the Art Institute, is the winning design selected by our club members.  We are very grateful to the Art Institute for its support!

Internationally, Zonta’s mission is to stop violence, and to improve lives of women through a variety of international service projects. In 2008-2010, Zonta International will fund service programs in Rwanda (Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV), in Guatemala and El Salvador (Safe Cities for Women), in Liberia (Reduction of Obstetric Fistula).

The Zonta Club of Charleston is currently accepting applications for YWPA awards. The award is $500 and deadline is March 15, 2010. The goal of the Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing a commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.

Young women who are pre-university or pre-college students (age 16-20) at the time of application and demonstrate evidence of active commitment to volunteerism; evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and evidence of international awareness are eligible for the monetary award.

YWPA recipients are initially selected at the Zonta club level, and then compete at the district and international levels of Zonta International. Since 1990, Zonta has presented 465 district and international awards totaling US$225,750 to young women from 47 countries. All application materials must be received at the Zonta Club of Charleston by March 15, 2010. Who is eligible?
